BLUEWIN Participates in the MDB Plaza Program… Spotlight on Emerging Sludge Market Opportunities in Latin America
BLUEWIN recently participated in the MDB (Multilateral Development Banks) Plaza program hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of Korea. The event provided an in-depth overview of infrastructure development trends across developing countries, as well as the investment directions of major international financial institutions.
This year’s program featured key MDBs including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). Each institution presented the infrastructure status and development priorities of their respective focus countries.
Across the board, road and transportation infrastructure, water supply facilities, and urban basic infrastructure projects dominated the discussions.
Wastewater treatment and sludge-related topics were relatively limited, as many countries still prioritize the expansion of fundamental infrastructure systems.
Latin America Shows Distinct Interest in Sludge and Environmental Technologies
Despite the overall focus on civil infrastructure, Latin American institutions expressed notable interest in sludge reduction, drying, and resource-recovery technologies.
In particular, CABEI highlighted the growing need for:
Modernization of wastewater treatment processes
Sludge reduction and reuse
Energy-efficient environmental infrastructure
Several Central and South American countries, including Honduras, are still in the early stages of establishing wastewater treatment facilities. Because of this, the region presents a unique opportunity to build optimized infrastructure from the ground up, rather than retrofitting outdated systems.
Rapid urbanization, population growth, aging facilities, and rising operating costs are expected to accelerate sludge-related demand in the coming years, positioning Latin America as an emerging growth market for sludge treatment technologies.
MDB’s Core Message: “Understanding the Project Context Matters More Than the Technology Itself”
MDB representatives emphasized the importance of the following criteria when selecting technology partners:
Clear understanding of each country’s regulations, environment, and on-site constraints
A problem-solving approach rather than simple equipment supply
Energy efficiency, operational convenience, and long-term sustainability
Stable, long-term partnership structures
For BLUEWIN, this reaffirmed the need for tailored technology proposals aligned with country-specific infrastructure conditions.
In early-stage markets like Latin America, high-energy thermal dryers are often unsuitable, making BLUEWIN’s low-energy ELODE+NVD/EVD solution a more practical and scalable alternative.

Where BLUEWIN’s Technology Aligns With Latin American Needs
BLUEWIN’s ELODE+NVD/EVD combination system is particularly well-suited to Latin America due to:
Low energy consumption — applicable even in regions with limited power infrastructure
Modular and scalable design — ideal for building efficient systems from the start
Easy maintenance — valuable for countries with limited technical manpower
Integrated reduction + drying + resource-recovery capabilities
CABEI’s emphasis on sludge reduction, energy-efficient environmental infrastructure, and resource-recovery aligns directly with BLUEWIN’s core strengths.
Looking Ahead
Based on insights gained from the MDB Plaza program, BLUEWIN will continue analyzing environmental and wastewater-sector needs across Latin America and other developing regions.
Moving forward, BLUEWIN aims to:
Assess sludge characteristics by country
Design tailored ELODE+NVD/EVD application models
Strengthen collaboration with MDBs and governmental institutions
Through these efforts, BLUEWIN seeks to enhance its role as a practical, solutions-driven partner in the global environmental infrastructure sector.
