One hundred tons per day of sludge at 80% moisture content contains approximately 80 tons of water.
When a Solar Dryer is applied as a standalone system, approximately 77.8 tons of water must be evaporated every day to achieve a final moisture content of 10%.
This requires an enormous greenhouse area, a long drying period, high-capacity ventilation and odor-treatment systems, and extensive storage facilities for unfavorable weather conditions. In particular, during rainy seasons, winter periods, or high-humidity conditions, it becomes difficult to guarantee both the required treatment capacity and the final moisture content.
By installing ELODE upstream of the Solar Dryer, a large amount of water can be separated in liquid form within approximately 90 seconds through its action on intracellular water, interstitial water, and bound water.
After ELODE reduces the sludge moisture content to approximately 45–55%, the remaining evaporation load of the Solar Dryer is reduced by approximately 71–82% compared with a standalone Solar Dryer system.
As a result, under sufficient solar radiation and proper sludge-turning conditions, the sludge can reach a final moisture content of approximately 10% within about two hours. This combination also dramatically reduces:
Solar drying is an excellent and environmentally friendly technology. However, for large-scale sludge treatment with year-round operational stability,
the Solar Dryer should not be required to perform the entire drying process alone.
Instead, it should be applied as the final finishing-drying stage after ELODE.
